A Thanksgiving Earthquake in the New Madrid Seismic Zone

Well last night the New Madrid seismic zone had an minor earthquake timed perfectly with the Thanksgiving weekend.  At about 8:00 pm near Caruthersville, Missouri there  was a magnitude 3.2 earthquake.  It was felt locally near the epicenter on both sides of the Mississippi river.  Because it was on a peaceful pre holiday night, more people were at home to feel and report it.  For more information visit Caruthersville Missouri earthqake

A Pre Election Shake

The other day we had another earthquake in West Kentucky on the Mississppi River. Its location was northeast of New Madrid and the magnitude was 2.7. Over the past year we have had a couple of earthquakes in that area that were of a similar magnitude.  Its just a reminder that the New Madrid seismic zone is an active one and will on occasion send out reminders to us that it exists.  For more infomation visit Kentucky earthquake
