A Shake on the 4th of July

A few minutes before the end of the 4th of July an 3. 0 earthquake happened near Carruthersville, Missouri.  The earthquake  should have been felt by many in the area except for one factor. That is with all the fireworks going off it would be hard for anyone near the epicenter to tell the difference. During the American Civil War the same effect occurred for reports of earthquakes. Due to the concussions and noise of the fighting people did not notice or were indifferent to earthquakes. Reporting of earthquakes in the eastern United States does not pick up until after the war was concluded.

For more information on the earthquake please go to this link4th of July Earthquake.  Also if you felt it please report it to the Did You Feel It? link in the website. These reports are important to scientists who measure the effects of earthquakes in the New Madrid seismic zone and surrounding areas.
